To empower single parents to lead successful families and build strong communities.

Background In 2002, Single Parent Support Network’s(SPSN) framework was memorialized in writing by the founder, Rhonda Thomas.  As several years flew by, the first Queen for A Day event was held in September with the help from Kathy & Roger Smith, thus noting SPSN’s signature event for years to come.  In 2007, SPSN informally began support groups for single parent families in the Oklahoma City metro.  Monthly outings for single parent families were created in addition to those support groups in 2009.  During 2010, SPSN’s signature event “Queen for A Day” honored over 300 single mothers and grandmothers and attained 60 single parent family memberships to the Single Parent Support Network.  During 2011, life coaching sessions began, professional group counseling  sessions were launched as well as after school tutoring for children of single parent families.
Impact

The ReSTART (Re Supporting, Teaching And Reaching Together) program has 2 active groups with 2 more scheduled to begin in the Fall. Our goal is to add 1 new group per quarter.

We just completed our 9th annual Queen For A Day event which hosted many single moms, grandmothers, adoptive moms, etc. here in the Oklahoma City metro.  We also hosted our first Queen For A Day event close to Tulsa, OK.

The Mothers and Sons Conference in June gave moms an opportunity to learn how to give their love roots. Boys interact with positive male role models at a local camp.  As a direct result of this event, we are starting a monthly mentoring program for boys of single moms.

The Divorce Education/Co-Parenting class is presented as an interactive, four-hour workshop. Parents can attend the workshop separately. Upon successful completion of the workshop, parents will receive a certificate of completion. Attendance for the full four hours is required to receive the certificate. Children are not allowed to attend the class, however childcare is available.
 
 
 
Needs
We have reached the point where we have touched many lives with programs designed to educate and support single parents and their children. Our primary needs are funding for the daily operation of SPSN.  We have initiated the LIFT 300 Program to attract 300 donors of $300 each.  The goal is to attract 300 new single parents into the organization.
 
We are always looking for volunteers who have a heart for single parents.  We need volunteers for individual events and long term projects.
 
The ReSTART program needs facilitators to conduct weekly classes.  A facilitator should have the ability to teach and work with a group of 5-15 people for 1 hour at a time.  The total weekly involvement would be around 4 hours per week.

Our goal at SPSN is to provide a holistic approach to the challenges that single parents need to successfully raise their children. We believe that the first approach is the wholeness and the health of the parent or care giver so that they can then pour into the lives of their children. There is nothing more futile than trying to “fix” a child, per se, and then sending them back into a vulnerable, toxic and sometimes hostile environment. We choose to give parents to tools to help them find their way so that they can help their children find theirs.

Our dream far surpasses educational tools, support groups and scholarships and we would like to have access to legal help, auto clinics, emergency rescue teams, housing and so much more available for the parents.

We want to work on another project called “The Edge” which is simply a way to tap into the gifting of many of the children of single parent families (usually termed as “at risk”) and opening up the windows of Science, Math, Technology, Robotics and other cutting edge educational opportunities at an early age. The objective would be to give them an advantage as they grow into successful young men and women.

Description
Divorce is tough. Its debris is painful and can have a devastating affect on both parents and children. If parents are unable to work together for the good of the child, the child can suffer life-long problems. Our hope is reconciliation, but if that isn’t possible we want to help you minimize the debris for your family. 
 
Our Divorce Education/Co-Parenting class is designed for parents who are raising children between two households. The program is designed for single parents, step parents, and extended family members. It is also open to grandparents and anyone who cares about kids in divorced or remarried families. The program promises to be life-changing for parents walking the complex path of co-parenting after divorce and in remarriage. We will be using the ONE HEART, TWO HOMES curriculum as the instructional piece of the program.
