Background The Oklahoma Horticultural Society was formed in 1970 to further the appreciation of gardening and horticulture throughout Oklahoma.
This nonprofit organization recognizes and promotes excellence in gardening and horticulture across Oklahoma and the United States.
For 2013:
1) Bring Dr. Jules Janick, Purdue University esteemed horticulturist to conduct educational presentations on horticulture in art in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
2) Conduct monthly horticulture and gardening presentations in Oklahoma City featuring in-state horticulture experts.
3) Organize and lead a fall gardening tour featuring inspirational gardens for the general public. 
4) Continue financial support for horticulture awards for 4-H and Future Farmers of America; two OSU Stillwater campus horticulture scholarships, two OSU-OKC horticulture scholarships; and support for OSU OCES Oklahoma Gardening TV program. 
For 2014: 
1) Conducted fall Garden Tour that was the most successful in OHS history for attendance and financial support.
2) Organized annual meeting to be held in March, 2015 in Tulsa and Oklahoma City featuring Dr. Bill Welch of Texas A&M University.
3) Conducted monthly horticulture and gardening presentations in Oklahoma City featuring in-state horticulture experts.
4) Provided financial support for horticulture awards for 4-H and Future Farmers of America.
5) Provided two OSU Stillwater campus horticulture scholarships, two OSU-OKC horticulture scholarships and support for OSU OCES Oklahoma Gardening TV program. 
1) Support for meeting expenses for Dr. Bill Welch presentations, 4-H and FFA awards, OSU and OSU-OKC scholarships, support of OSU OCES Oklahoma Gardening TV program.

Monthly educational meetings are open to the public and feature some of the nation’s top gardeners and lecturers. Through our educational meetings, we strive to:
  • Foster and stimulate horticultural interest in Oklahoma
  • Promote gardening and share knowledge of growing vegetables, fruits, flowers, trees, shrubs, and ground covers
  • Explore and learn about the very best plants for our Oklahoma climate
  • Share ideas about gardening in Oklahoma and exchange plants

Description As a nonprofit organization interested in promoting good gardening practices and stimulating interest in horticulture, the Oklahoma Horticultural Society (OHS) is proud to sponsor scholastic scholarships for college students majoring in horticulture related fields of study.  Scholarships are awarded in honor of distinguished former Oklahoma State University (OSU) professors and/or OHS members. Two (2) $1,000 dollar scholarships, at OSU/Stillwater, two (2) $500 scholarships, at OSU/OKC, and one (1) $500 scholarship, at Tulsa Community College, are awarded each academic year beginning with the fall semester.
