Background

In 1937, a handful of Oklahoma City’s civic leaders founded the private, non-profit organization that is known today as Planned Parenthood of Central Oklahoma (PPCO).

After serving the people of Central Oklahoma for more than seven decades, PPCO merged with Planned Parenthood Kansas/Mid-Missouri to become Planned Parenthood Great Plains on July 1, 2016.

Many people choose PPGP because they find our staff to be nonjudgmental and sensitive. Clients can enjoy a confidential, comfortable atmosphere with the knowledge that their personal privacy and dignity will always be respected at Planned Parenthood.

At PPGP, our professional staff encourage questions and explain all contraceptive, pregnancy and reproductive healthcare options. We believe that responsible decisions concerning sexual behavior and childbearing must be based on information and understanding, rather than on fear and a lack of knowledge.

Planned Parenthood Great Plains maintains three clinic sites in the Oklahoma City metro area: central Oklahoma City, Edmond and Warr Acres.

PPGP is nationally known for the quality of its educational programs and its commitment to helping people. We provide programs and training to a variety of audiences, including schools, churches, teachers, civic organizations, prisons, halfway houses and people with developmental problems.

Topics range from puberty, date rape prevention, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS to new behaviors, such as refusal skills. In working with young people, PPGP stresses that abstinence is the safest approach and an appropriate, healthy choice. However, since we recognize that not all young people will choose abstinence, we also provide information on how they can protect themselves and their partners if they are sexually active.

PPGP provides women and men a lifetime of information and health care. From the onset of puberty through menopause and beyond, Planned Parenthood helps women and men better understand their own bodies, the challenges they face, and all available options.
