Mission Statement Santa's Cause is a 501(c)3 non-profit, all volunteer organization providing anonymous last minute response to children's letters to Santa that would otherwise go unanswered.  We receive our letters from teachers and counselors and send Santa with wrapped gifts to surprise the family a few days before Christmas. Our hope is that children who might have been sad on Christmas morning,  would instead  believe in the true meaning of Christmas and feel the love shared by others because of the season.

Mission Santa's Cause is a 501(c)3 non-profit, all volunteer organization providing anonymous last minute response to children's letters to Santa that would otherwise go unanswered.  We receive our letters from teachers and counselors and send Santa with wrapped gifts to surprise the family a few days before Christmas. Background Santa's Cause was established in 1985 when Alan and Anita Webb learned of a few families that needed help at Christmas. It was only a few days before and all of the other organizations that might of been able to help were already closed. The couple gathered friends and surprised the families with a visit from Santa. Alan and Anita continue to volunteer their time organizing similar deliveries to families in the OKC metro-area with the help of as many as 600 hundred volunteers.
Impact

Even after 34 years, we are continuously surprised by how many families and children are forgotten at Christmastime. Every year we hear on numerous deliveries, "Look! It's Santa Clause! I TOLD you he wasn't sick!" Having the gas, electricity and or water turned on for a family living in a cold and dark house or taking a desperate mother a fist full of gift cards to help feed her hungry kids would be highlights of each and every year. But too, the counselors report that when we've had a child's teeth repaired, or glasses purchased, or even given new shoes a whole NEW child emerges! We once were able to have a prosthetic leg donated to a desperate mother due to her son's letter to Santa. Sometimes just to hear from Santa an "I love you!" can light up a child's eyes and we now hear this often from adults that come to volunteer after having been a recipient as a child!

Needs

1) Financial contributions have been difficult with the decline in OKC's oil related business over the past few years

2) Location for three weeks of physical operations and inventory storage throughout the year

3) Volunteers willing to play Santa

4) Volunteers willing to drive Santa into some of our cities most desperate and dangerous areas

5) Donations of Toys and clothing as well as help with special needs

CEO/Executive Director Statement We are an ALL volunteer organization. No individual or group of individuals receives compensation or reimbursement for time or efforts donated to Santa's Cause.
Board Chair Statement Santa's Cause is unique in that we obtain letters from third parties (School Counselors, volunteer organizations, local clubs, etc.) who have knowledge that the children being referred for a Santa visit are receiving nothing for Christmas. We send "Santa" to surprise each family with presents for each child in the household. Additionally, we deliver smoke detectors and calculators to each family unit and have paid to have utilities reactivated on many occasions. We now require the support of more than 600 volunteers to accomplish this annual task.

Description Our annual program is to collect letters to Santa written by children and submitted by teachers, counselors, etc. and send Santa to visit the children with wrapped gifts to open on Christmas morning.

Program Short-term SuccessHelpDescription of short-term achievement(s) or improvement(s) that will result from this program. For Christmas, 2019, we have already secured a warehouse to use for free during the month of December, We will mail out a schedule and location announcement for the volunteers to come and help. Many groups and individuals have already committed to volunteer. We have received a portion of the funds that we need to purchase the inventory required to deliver to our expected 1,000 children hoping for a gift and a visit from Santa.
Program Long-term SuccessHelpDescription of the ultimate change(s) that will result from this program. This may be far into the future or represent an ideal state. The first year, 1985, we delivered to 56 children. Since that time the number of deliveries has grown to as many as 1500 kids per year.  The total number of children served since 1985 is over 33,000.
Program Success MonitoringHelpDescription of the tools used to measure or track program impact. We keep track of the letters to Santa, and through a database are able to follow up and make sure that each delivery is made before Christmas.  The volunteers most always return from the deliveries with heart-warming stories of surprised kids and tearful mothers who are so thankful for the visit.
Examples of Program SuccessHelpSpecific examples of changes in behaviors or testimonies of changes that demonstrate program success. We often hear after Christmas from the counselors and teachers who submitted the letter on behalf of these kids.  New shoes, clothing, food and utilities are often reported to being a huge boost to a child's self-esteem. A visit from Santa is what we hear about most as the factor in having a Merry Christmas... "Santa came to visit ME!"
Comments on Programs
CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments  Beyond the constant fund raising efforts, our most important challenge each year is finding a location from which to operate for the wrapping and delivery project from December 14th through Christmas Day. This year the Oklahoma County Commissioners have agreed to allow us to work from their building at 42nd and North Lincoln. In past years, Don Kasperiet, Tinker Federal Credit Union, Chesapeake Energy, and others have loaned us a building to use the last three weeks of December.
