Background In 1988, Parent Promise was founded by members of the Oklahoma City Exchange Club service organization and opened its doors as the Exchange Club Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse of Oklahoma. In 2001, the Center expanded its services to include public education, community awareness and parenting resources. Parent Promise offers evidence-based home visiting services to families to help them provide loving and nurturing homes where their children can grow, learn and play.
Has served more than 7,000 families.
Performs approximately 1,800 home visits a year and roughly 150 child development screening a year.

Parents As Teachers: A home-visitation program providing intensive in-home education to families most at-risk for child abuse.
Parent Support Groups: Groups providing information for parents on community resources, self-esteem, financial management and other life skills. Groups also provide an opportunity for parents to network and develop support systems.
Parent-Child Interaction: We provide play groups that teach parents proper-parent-child interaction based on realistic expectations and child development.
Public Awareness campaigns: We provide annual public service campaigns on child abuse prevention including television, radio, print and billboard announcements.

Program Long-term SuccessHelpDescription of the ultimate change(s) that will result from this program. This may be far into the future or represent an ideal state. Develop and implement comprehensive state-wide public awareness campaign detailing what each of us can do to prevent child abuse.
Description Healthy Families America, sanctioned by Prevent Child Abuse America, targets pregnant/expecting parents and can serve families until the child turns 5 years old. Our focus is to begin working with pregnant women and/or families whose child is three months old or younger. This program focuses on providing the tools and resources to promote positive parent-child relationships and healthy attachment. It requires weekly meetings and goal setting.
Population Served At-Risk Populations
Description This program focuses on families with children between 6 and 12. This program takes into account the changes in family dynamics once children get older. The program works interactively with parents and children on a family treatment plan focusing on child safety, problem solving skills, parenting skills and social support. It is the only program in Oklahoma County focusing on families with children older than 5.
