Mission Areawide Aging Agency is dedicated to advancing the dignity and independence of older adults in our community.
For over 40 years, our efforts involve funding, coordinating and monitoring programs authorized by the Older Americans Act. The counties we serve are Canadian, Cleveland, Logan and Oklahoma. Our target population is older adults sixty years of age and older, plus their caregivers. To provide these services, Areawide depends upon funding through private and foundation grants, with the majority of the funds coming from state and federal monies.
Anyone over the age of 60 is eligible for our services; however, those living below the poverty line are the ones who depend upon it to help make ends meet. Our services provide them with a noon meal, transportation to the doctor’s office, and better balance classes with SAIL Classes (Stay Active for Independent Life). Seniors can also receive legal services to complete a will or end of life documents.
Areawide’s helpline provides assistance with utility bills or for the construction of a wheelchair ramp for their home. Our information assistants answer calls from over 10,000 people a year. They direct seniors to more specific agencies that can help them, or we may send them a Senior Resource Directory. This resource directory contains information for a range of needs, from dentistry to hearing and visual services, to long-term care facilities, and even pet care. In the summer, we have fans available for seniors, and in the winter, we have warm blankets. We try to be a one stop shop for many things our fellow senior Oklahomans may need.
Areawide Aging Agency also has an Ombudsman program. The Ombudsman serve residents in nursing homes, resident care facilities and assisted living centers in the four counties served by Areawide Aging Agency. Five Ombudsman serve 11, 250 residents at these facilities. The Ombudsman’s work is to improve the quality of care and life, and assist in protecting residents’ rights in these facilities.
Areawide Aging Agency is dedicated to advancing the dignity and independence of older adults in our community. Areawide assesses the needs of seniors, coordinates programs such as congregate and home delivered meals, transportation, and respite care for caregivers. We link seniors to resources through our information and assistance line and we also print a resource directory specifically for seniors in the counties we serve. Areawide Aging Agency also has an Ombudsman program. The Ombudsman Supervisors and volunteers serve residents in nursing homes, resident care facilities and assisted living centers in the four counties served by Areawide Aging Agency.
